THE RIOT BEFORE LYRICS
"Lather, Rinse, Repeat"
I read a poet's words about folly in youth
He said it later led to a revelation of truth
So I keep that with me, use it as my excuse
When I'm feeling lonely at night
I only need you for an hour or two
Then I'm gone before the sun has turned the sky blue
Back alone where everything old has become new
At least for a while
Until the strength of my denial
Is challenged by memories on file
See there's this person I was yeah this person I am
The former would accuse the latter of sin
He'd say "Brett you know you gotta kneel down and repent
Before it's too late"
'Cause I used to believe I'd begin at the end
But that former me has disappeared in the wind
And we only meet now in the eyes of an old friend
And it's a stranger's face
Oh and I can barely trace
How I got here from that distant place
So I'm not too concerned about God anymore
I don't worry often what my soul has in store
Some say that mindset is one to abhor
But I disagree
I pictured a prisoner eating a meal
The last one before facing that chair made of steel
When death is approaching so vivid and real
How he'll savor every bite
So now that's how I live my life
The emphasis on what's in sight
But just in case I hope that poet was right
