SCHWARTZENEGGAR LYRICS
"Today"
I looked around me today
and saw all those people, tired and gray.
going through the motions of life -
I couldn't smile to save my day.
I looked around me today
and dreamt that our troubles could be lifted away.
Faced with myself
I tried to pray, but what could I say
From our first cry of innocence
we are proven guilty.
to our last gasp in binding sheets
the paths are set quite clearly.
The echoing halls of childhood years
were we accumulate so much fear,
draw the curtains, douse the light,
the patterns on the walls at night.
A threat of menace in our sleep,
so bless us lord, our souls to keep,
and if the child should stain the bed
then force ideas into it's head.
Let punishment befit the crime,
at tender years you're doing time,
these adults oh so kind and wise
instill their fears behind our eyes.
"Now be a good boy, and get to sleep before the sandman comes,
that's the way to do it, that's the way to do it."
The crack of stick, the trembling heart,
the silent terror as the violence starts,
eyes that flinch as blows rain down
regard it well through tears that drown.
The voices raised upon the door
shall lull this child to sleep no more,
the mind grown old in one so young
asks itself, "What have I done?"
And something stirs within the breast,
the nightmare born, never to rest,
analyzed now with sterilized grace
and the mind retreats to a secret place
where it can't be found, exposed to pain,
our answer is to whisper, "insane"
we so proud in our civilized age
put the match to the opening page.
I looked around me today
and saw all those people happy and gay,
going through the motions of life -
I couldn't smile to save my day.
I looked around me today
and dreamt that our troubles could be lifted away.
Faced with myself,
I tried to pray, but what could I say?
Here comes the candle to light you to bed,
and here comes the chopper to chop off your head.
